Apollo 13, 1970, "Fra Mauro" 3-D Lunar Landing Site Topographical Map (28x26") This 1:8,000 scale black and white pressed-plastic map of the Fra Mauro landing site was designed to give the astronaut crew a sense of orientation as they came in for their lunar landing. Prepared under the direction of the department of Defense and published by the US Army Topographic Command, Washington, DC relief data supplied by the Mapping Sciences Lab at JSC using photometric methods, this map was prepared in only limited quantities, per special request (probably less than 12 copies of each map were made). The maps offered in this sale represent the complete series of this type of map made. This map is a jigsaw lovers delight and requires some assembly (the bulk of the map is in three main pieces and a good portion of the balance may be represented in the loose scraps). That makes this map especially interesting is that the crater names are glued on labels, not printed on the map itself. The map is in need of a good cleaning, but it would be well worth the effort as this is the first time we have even been aware of this maps existence. Some minor faults should not detract. Due to delicate nature of these maps premium shipping may be required.
