Japan. Trade Dollar, 1875. Dav-275; KM-Y14. Meiji 8. Mutsuhito. PCGS graded AU-53.

The Japanese Trade Dollar was only issued for three years (1875-1877). Its purpose was to compete with the Maria Theresa Talers then circulating widely in the Orient. As a unit of trade it was only moderately successful, as a numismatic item, it is the scarcest crown type in Japanese coinage and highly sought after.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,200.
