Lanseer, Sir Edwin Henry: Painter in Ordinary to Queen Victoria, ALS Referencing Her Majesty (1802-1873) Lanseer. 2pp on personal stationery addressed St. John's Wood Road N.W. dated May 16, 1865. Lanseer writes "My dear Sir, I am not able to give attention to anything till after the 19th (when Her M goes North) - for whom I am working against time. I will take my chance of finding you and your guest."
Lanseer, proved a master of painting animals in every heroic form imaginable and became immensely popular with every level of society. He famously posed Queen Victoria and her servant, John Brown and a horse for a photograph which became the basis for the chalk drawing HER MAJESTY AT OSBORNE IN 1866 which resides in the Royal Collection. It was made into a popular print commonly called "Sorrow". Estimated Value $200 - 500
