Qing Dynasty, 19th Century Colors on Silk. The Qing dynasty was the last imperial dynasty of China dating from 1644 to 1912. Lasting almost 3 centuries, the works of art from this period are remarkable and important. In this color-on-silk dated 1868, an image of a qilin, mythological hooved creature (not too dissimilar from the unicorn in Western culture) is carrying a child which can mean an importance of a pending birth, of good luck and importance and a long life most especially in this painting of a variety of different gods in the Chinese culture. Artist unknown, dated 1868 this is a beautiful work bosting wonderful colors. Silk painting alone measures 56 x 32" and is framed in a rosewood carved frame 60 x 36". Normal evidence of age but overall in wonderful condition.
Due to size, we can recommend a superior and reasonable outside packing and shipping company. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
