Nanpin School (After Shen Quan) Edo Period, 12 Ink and Color Silk Panels of Auspicious Animals. Remarkable collection of 12 ink and color on silk panels from the Nanpin school (after Shen Quan) during the Edo Period. Carefully removed from a rosewood and fabric covered folio (included) and individually and professionally framed, these enchanting, stylized animals have charm to spare and boast wonderful colors. The collection has and array of mythical and real animals including: a wonderfully stylized elephant, a small brown monkey riding atop a white monkey, a fantastic, long-haired four-legged creature with "cub", three goats on a hill, a simian creature and baby, a single large goat, a large cat with coiled tail, a pair of procupines on rocks, a fox glancing at a white bird in tree, a fantastic fish scaled qilin with a white cat-like beast peering down from clouds, a tiger, and a recumbent male deer. All of the animals set within dramatic landscapes that are as expressive and fantastic as the animal subjects. Each silk panel is 10½ x 8" and framed to 16½ x 13". Estimate Value $5,000 - UP
