Lot 429

1826 N-1 R2 G4. Double Struck over Off Center Reverse Brockage. Glossy chocolate and steel brown. The rim was flattened at stars 2-5 with lighter flattening on the rim at stars 12-13. An inconsequential cent except for the remarkable mint error involved. The first strike was a reverse brockage. AME from AMERICA shows clearly at stars 9-11 indicating that side was struck at least partially by a reasonably well centered reverse die. The opposing section on the reverse shows a clear incuse brockage impression of TED from UNITED of a 90% off center struck cent that failed to eject completely from the coining chamber. The off center brockage error was followed up by a normal centered strike. A really neat mint error, but in low grade as is so often the case with these underappreciated "spoiled" cents.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
