Russia. 5 Rubles, 1841-SPB ACh. Bitkin-1st ed-18; Fr-155; KM-C175.1. Nicholas I, 1825-1855. Eagle. Reverse: Value and date. Sharply struck and choice. NGC graded MS-66.

Nicholas I, was one of the most reactionary rulers in Europe in the 19th century. Wherever liberalism reared its head, Nicholas was there with his soldiers to crush the movement. He was totally unappreciated by other European rulers. When war was declared between Russia and the Ottoman Empire in 1853, Britain and France intervened on the side of the Ottomans. This was the famed Crimean War.
