Peru. 8 Escudos, 1829/8 JM (Lima). Fr-62; KM-148.1. Republic. Liberty standing holding shield and pole. Reverse: Arms. Cleaned. Extremely Fine.

The standing female pictured here is believed to be the Greek goddess, Pallas Athena. She was portrayed as the goddess of Wisdom, as well as a warrior. Her ability as a counsellor and fighter would be a strong combination for a struggling state such as Peru in 1829.
