Sardinia (House of Savoy). Scudo d'oro, 1570. Fr-1039b. 3.31 grams. 24.88 mm. Emanuele Filiberto, 1538-1580. Obv: Crowned quartered ornate shield within double linear circle. Leg: EM.FILIB.D.G.DVX.SAB.P.PED Reverse: Floriated cross with E B R T in angles of cross within doulbe linear circle, mintmark, sun. Leg: IN.DOMINO.CONFIDO.1570.T.I.B.C. NGC graded MS-61.

Savoy was a small duchy constantly being fought over by more powerful neighbors. Its location in northwestern Italy placed it in a contending position between France, Spain and the Empire. Little commerce could transpire during all the conflicts, so few coins were produced.
