1843 N-8 R2+ Petite Head, Small Ltrs PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Repunched 184. Frosty steel brown and light olive with 15% of the obverse and 35% of the reverse showing slightly faded mint red. The only marks are a small pinprick under the ear lobe, a nick on the rim above star 5, and a streak of dark planchet impurity in the leaves below the E in UNITED (as struck). E-MDS, die state b early. There is a bit of crumbling tucked under the nose but the fine die line over the inner curl is still visible. The repunching on the 184 is clear and there are no rim cuds on the obverse. Our grade is MS62+, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. Comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65+RB. Estimated Value $1,750 - UP
