Santa Anna, Antonio Lopez de and Anastacio Bustamante. Manuscript Document Signed by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (1794-1876), as general, and Anastacio Bustamante (1780-1853), as Vice President of Mexico, 1½ pp (one sheet recto/verso) with integral leaf, Xalapa, Oct. 29, 1829. Written to Vicente Guerreo (1782-1831), who was President of Mexico from April-December of 1829, when he was betrayed by Bustamante and executed. The document regards a manifesto to be published in the newspapers.

Guerrero was of mixed Spanish, Amerindian, and African descent. The state of Guerrero was named after him. Bustamente would serve as president three times and Santa Anna five times. All three men were revolutionary generals. In 1829, Santa Anna was the hero of the new Mexican republic for defeating Spain in its final attempt to retake Mexico. In 1833 he would become president for the first time and in 1836 would gain a place in infamy in American history for leading a 13-day assault on the Alamo, which left all but two defenders dead.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
