Calabria, Taras, c. 272-235 BC. AR Didrachm (or Nomos; 6.44 g). Horseman riding right with Nike crowning boy-rider. Reverse: Taras riding left on dolphin; in right field, herm. SNG ANS 1225-1229; Vlasto 908-909. Lustrous. Superb Extremely Fine.

In Greek times, a herm was a male bust atop a squared pillar, placed at boundaries for protection and good luck.
