Brandenburg-Ansbach. Ducat, 1619. Fr-321; KM-10. 3.24 grams. 22.68 mm. Joachim Ernst, 1603-1625. Obv. Armored bust with staff in right hand within beaded circle, date below bust. Leg +IOACH.ERNES.D.G.MARCH. - BRAND.PRVS.STE.POM. Reverse: Ornate shield with five arms within beaded circle. *CAS.VAN*CR*IA*DVX*BVRG*IN*NVR*PR*RVG* Attractively toned with a sharp strike. NGC graded AU-53.

Brandenburg Ansbach was an offshoot of the more powerful Brandenburg Prussia. Joachim Ernst was given the territory after the death of his father, Johann Georg of Brandenburg Prussia. He was a supporter of the Protestant cause, with the title of margrave. He was involved in many intrigues and accomplished little. His coins are scarce.
