Lot 400

1817 Braided Hair Cent. 15 stars. . N-16. PCGS graded AU-55 and Del Bland graded VF-30. Light chocolate brown, darker on most of the obverse, with a small dent on the face, two tiny nicks also on the face, and one other very small nick elsewhere on each side. A highly popular variety.
The small die break is very clear below Liberty's ear, but the advanced rim crumbling is not yet present. In feverish demand for the 15 star obverse die, with a significant premium paid for coins approaching mint state on this variety. Here is one that has been off the market for a very long time.
Estimated Value $500 - 750.
Ex: James G. Macallister 5/28/45 as "Unc." at $15.

Realized $529
