Hancock, John -- Document Signed as Governor of Massachusetts (1737-1793) Signer of the Declaration of Independence; president of the Second Continental Congress; and first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Manuscript document signed "John Hancock" as Governor of Massachusetts, one page, 7½ x 12½", Boston, Aug. 16, 1788. Appointing George White "Quarter Master to the Regiment of Militia whereof Samuel M. Cobb Esq. is Colonel raised for the Defence of the Eastern parts of this Commonwealth." Lacking seal; some toning, folds, and contemporary ink spotting. Hancock's beautiful signature is large and eye-catching. Matted and framed to an overall size of 13 x 18". Estimate $2,500 - 3,500
