Lot 398

A late Victorian uniform ensemble of an Artillery Major. Consists of a Royal Artillery tunic in black wool felt with red piping and highly decorated sleeves and collar in silver and gold bullion thread and epaullets in silver with a gold crown rank insignia of a major, and matching trousers with red side stripes. The tunic in nice condition outside, though worn inside, and the trousers excellent. Included are two forms of headgear; a field service cap with RA insignia in silver, possibly original to the uniform when the recipient was in lower rank, and a blue wool helmet of an officer in the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers in blue wool with silvered helmet plate and fittings, this possibly original to the uniform as well. The helmet plate is in excellent condition but the helmet shows wear from age and use including some minor moth holes and some leather loss to the back banding of the brim which is nevertheless complete. The interior canvas is complete as is the sweat band, though worn from use.

The lot also includes two unrelated uniform items of a Victorian era officer, i.e. a red and silver shoulder sash and leather and silver thread belt with buckle having a lion standing on a crown, these both in good used condition. Total of six items.
Estimated Value $1,250 - 1,500.
