Austria. Ducat, 1623. Fr-124; KM-47. Breslau mint. 3.47 grams. 22.16 mm. In the name of Ferdinand II, 1619-1637. Laureate head of ruler right. Leg: FERDIN.D:G.R.I.S.A.G.H.BO.REX.D:S. Reverse: Silesian eagle. Leg: *MONETA.AUREA.SILISEAE. 1623. Sharply struck with much original mint luster. Very Rare. NGC graded MS-63 Prooflike.

Ferdinand ruled at one of the most difficult times in the Empire's history. His election in 1619 was immediately followed by the defection of Bohemia and the beginning of the 30 Years War. Even though Bohemia was soon defeated, the war would devastate central Europe for the next century. Attempting to streamline his Empire, Ferdinand established primogeniture in his territories.
