Salzburg. Ducat, 1536. Fr-600; Prob-186. 3.52 grams. 20.24 mm. Matthau Lang Von Wellenburg, 1519-1540. Obv. Family arms with cardinal hat above date -1536- below within circle. Leg: +MATHEVS. CARD.ARIEPS.SALZ Reverse: Haloed mitred Saint standing holding crook in right hand, and salt pot in left, beneath, church arms. Leg: S.RVDBER (shield) TVS.EPVS. A very choice example with a bold strike and original fresh mint luster. NGC graded MS-62.

These early Salzburg Ducats are very scarce in such choice grades as is offered here. Not all of the Archbishops were cardinals of the church, but Matthau was, and the cardinal hat indicates that.
Estimated Value $1,750 - 2,250.
