Lot 39

1843 N-5 R1 Mature Head, Large Ltrs PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with hints of faded mint red in some of the protected areas. No spots or stains; the only notable marks are a diagonal pre-striking planchet void that looks like a nick between stars 11 & 12, a tiny vertical tick on the bust tip, and a small rim nick over the second S in STATES. The rims are uneven around both sides but the devices are well struck. LDS, die state d. All the earlier die lines are gone but the narrow rim cud at star 5 that comes with this die state is not visible due to the uneven rim. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#6 of the variety but finest of the late die state. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 2 in 63, 1 in 65, 1 in 65+. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
