Extremely Rare World War I Horse Gas Mask. At first glance, this odd Great War artifact looks like a space helmet from an old Flash Gordon movie, but it is the forepart of a gas mask for a horse used by cavalry or perhaps more likely horse drawn weaponry. We assign a probable attribution to the German or Austrian armies, though this remains unconfirmed. It is olive painted steel with retaining loops for straps holding the canvas or rubber head covering. Much of the original painted surface has succumbed to age and is now rust covered, otherwise quite decent relic condition and undoubtably very rare.
Estimated Value $600 - 900.
