Lot 376

1839. PCGS graded MS-65 Brown. Very attractive lustrous uniform bluish steel and chocolate. Mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. The only marks are a tiny planchet lamination at the dentils under the 8 in the date (as struck) and a spot of reddish steel toning between the first T & adjacent A in STATES with a shallow planchet flake inside the reddish spot. M-LDS with obvious die cracks on the obverse. There are traces of a rim cud break from star 5.5 to above star 6 and another from star 10 down to star 11, but the rest of the rim cuds do not show. The die lines from the upper left point of star 7 are weak but still visible. A very nice example of the "Silly Head" type. Noyes photo #61879 but not yet graded by him. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 5 finer: 4 in 66, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 37234) Value $3,000 - UP
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds-David Greenberg-Thomas D. Reynolds & Kenneth Goldman 6/6/2013-Nancy & Bryan Collection.
