Lot 374

1839 N-8 R1 Head of 1840. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC. Lustrous bluish steel and light olive. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. Sharply struck with only a few trivial marks. The notable ones are a tiny planchet chip on the truncation near the tip of the curl and a tiny nick on the coronet over the I. Sharply struck E-MDS with microscopic die flowlines in the fields and crisp dentils around both sides. Graded MS60 by Noyes, his photo #61065. Our grade is MS60. A nice example of the 1839 Head of 1840 "Redbook" variety. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; 2 finer: 1 in 65+, 1 in 66. (PCGS # 37265) Value $1,750 - UP
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 9/18/2008-Nancy & Bryan Collection.
