1807 Draped Bust Cent. . S-274, R2+. VF-30 Small Fraction. Sharpness at least 5 points better, but there are a couple fine hairline scratches on the neck and cheek with another slightly stronger one in the field from the nose to the right top of the Y. Otherwise the surfaces are choice, perfectly smooth and free of defects. Glossy chocolate brown with steel brown highpoints and small splashes of darker chocolate toning at IBE and the bust tip. MDS, Breen state III, with the usual blunt striking on the bust tip and OF. Everything else is well struck. Called VF30 and tied for CC#8 in the Bland census. This is the plate coin for the later die state in the 1991 Noyes book on the early date cents, his photo #23297. Comes with an important provenance.
