(British Military History) Wolseley, Garnet, Viscount Wolseley ALS Referencing Service in the Coornassie Campaign in Africa (1833-1913) British Field Marshal who was much-decorated and served in the Crimean War, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and in the Khartoum campaign against the Madhi. He was Britain's leading military leader in the late 19th century and was the model for Gilbert and Sullivan's Modern Major General. Autograph Letter Signed "G. Wolseley", 3pp, 7¼x4½", April 11, 1874, to R.G. Pellet-Rigleye, thanking him for a flattering ode. He refers to his service in the Coornassie Campaign in Africa and speaks appreciatively of those who recognize the challenges of military service. Estimated Value $200 - 400
