Blanchard, Antoine. Moulin Rouge Street Scene. Oil on canvas, 24 x 21½", framed to 28 x 31". Signed lower right, 1966. Antoine Blanchard was a pseudonym under which French painter, Marcel Masson (1910-1988) painted his popular Parisian street scenes, beginning in the late 1950s. He would often paint the same Paris landmark in different seasons or in different weather conditions. He especially enjoyed painting Parisian streets on a cloudy day or as they glistened in the rain, bustling with pedestrians. His scenes of Paris from earlier days were sometimes inspired by vintage postcards.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 8,000.
