Lot 351

1853 N-19 R1 Repunched 1853 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light chocolate and steel brown with at least 5% of the mint red remaining visible on the obverse, 15% on the reverse. A very attractive cent that appears choice to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals a few small spots of carbon on both sides, the notable ones being on the upper left point of star 1 and under the left base of the R in AMERICA. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state b early. Repunching is still evident at the base of all 4 digits, strongest on the 8 & 3, but the die line down from star 12 is gone. The small lump near the dentils under the left edge of the 5 is clear. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63.
Estimated Value $600-UP.

Realized $793
