Desirable (yet affordable) brown back design for the Type buyer, this from one of Philadelphia's more established banks. The large E on the face of the note denotes the Eastern region of the country. National Banks, being a precursor to the Federal Reserve System of 50 years later, had regional code letters on the face of the earliest issues as an aid to sorting and redistribution to the issuing banks.
