Ostrogoths.Theodoric, 493-526 AD. Gold Solidus (4.37 g.), Rome or Ravenna mint, struck c. 518-527 AD. Very Rare. Struck in the name of Justin I. Diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust, three-quarters facing, holding spear and shield with horseman and foe device. Reverse: Victory standing left, holding jeweled long cross, star at left; VICΓORI - Λ AVGGG A, CONOB. Arslan 36 (obverse die only); cf. BMC p. 48, 12 (COMOB instead of CONOB); MIB 24. Beautifully struck, the obverse of especially fine style. Softly to brightly lustrous. A very choice example of this coinage. Superb, Virtually Mint State.
