Lot 348

1822 N-4 R2. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown+. CAC. Lustrous tan and light steel brown with medium brown toning on the lower part of the reverse and subtle bluish steel overtones in protected areas, especially on the obverse. This cent has great eye appeal with only a few tiny marks including four microscopic ticks at the eye, a small wisp of darker toning hidden in the hair cords over the T in LIBERTY, and a small spot of darker toning (not carbon) off the lowest point of star 9. Sharply struck EDS with doubling on much of the reverse from die bounce or shift. Graded MS61 by Del Bland. Noyes says MS63 and tied for CC#4 in his census, photo #21529. Our grade is MS62. Comes with an impressive provenance. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer in 65. (PCGS # 36721) Value $5,000 - UP
