Great Britain. Maundy Set, 1953. S.4126; KM-MDS212. Elizabeth II, 1952 -. Obverse: Mary Gillick's young portrait of Queen. Obverse lettering style unique to 1953 coinage. Reverse: Numeral denoting denomination within crowned wreath. This is a very rare one-year-type Maundy Set struck for the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth and distributed by the new Queen at St Paul's Cathedral in London. By far the rarest Maundy coins of the 20th century. For some reason the 1953 set is often scuffed or mishandled, but this is a pristine group in mint state. Comes with original Royal Mint box. Lot of 4 coins. NGC graded Penny, MS-63, 2 Pence NGC graded MS-64; 3 Pence NGC graded MS-65; 4 Pence NGC graded MS-66.
