Great Britain. Proof Penny, 1889. S.3954; KM-755; Peck 1743; Freeman-129. Victoria, 1837-1901. Obverse: Wyon's portrait of Queen with hair in bun. VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F:D: Reverse: Britannia with shield and trident right. A lovely coin with a sharp edge and proof surfaces on obverse and reverse. Toning a little patchy on obverse. Freeman estimates that the rarity of this piece is R19 (2 to 5 pieces known) and although it is generally noted that the later 'bun head' Proof Pennies are not as sharply defined as the earlier Proofs they are usually rarer. In a new NGC 4 prong holder. NGC graded MS-63 Brown, Although called Mint State we believe as stated by the consignor it is a Proof.
Estimated Value $700 - 800.
