Sixteen (16) Magnificent Colored Lithographs from the 1855 Edition of the "History of the Indian Tribes of North America" Presented in Large Mats. McKenney, Thomas L. (1785-1859) And James Hall (1793-1868). History Of The Indian Tribes Of North America…Philadelphia: Published By D. Rice & A.N. Hart, 1855. Originally three volumes, octavo edition, with 120 hand-colored lithograph plates by J.T. Bowen.
This lot consists of 15 of the 120 colored lithographs from the 1855 edition.

Five (5) are tribal leaders wearing Indian Peace Medals awarded by European Nations and the US Government, awards highly prized by the Indian Nations. Meta-Koosega, a Chippeway Warrior, Ong-Pa-Ton-Ga, an Omakas Chief, Qua-Ta-Wa Pea a Shawnoe Chief, Wa-Bish-Kee-Pe-Nas, a Chippewa and Wat-Che-Mon-Ne an Ioway Chief.

Eleven (11) are various members and tribal leaders: Timpoochee Barnard, Uchee Warrior, Stum-A-Nu, Flat Head Boy, Jack-O-Pa, Chippewa Chief, Me-Te-A, Pottawatimie Chief, O-Hya-Wa-Mincee-Kee, Chippewa Chief, Ka-Ta-Wa-Be-Da, Chippeway Chief, Wa-Kaun-Ha-Ka, Winnebego Chief, A-Mis-Quam, Winnebago Brave, Ka-Na-Pi-Ma, an Ottawa Chief and Ca-Ta-He-Cas-Sa, Principal Chief of the Shawnese.
