Lot 34

1842 N-8 R1 Large Date NGC graded MS66 Brown. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with at least 15% of the planchet showing mint red, mostly on the reverse. Satiny and quite attractive but there are three small marks on the obverse that do catch your eye. These are a thin diagonal nick midway between the tip of the nose and star 3, another on the lower part of the neck, and a small spot of darker toning at the dentils left of star 3. The reverse is choice. Nicely struck MDS, die state b. The early die lines at ONE CENT are gone but the point from the right top of the N in CENT is strong. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 1; none finer at NGC. Estimated Value $2,250 - UP
