Eighteen (18) Magnificent Colored Lithographs from the 1855 Edition of the "History of the Indian Tribes of North America" Matted. McKenney, Thomas L. (1785-1859) And James Hall (1793-1868). History Of The Indian Tribes Of North America…Philadelphia: Published By D. Rice & A.N. Hart, 1855. Originally three volumes, octavo edition, with 120 hand-colored lithograph plates by J.T. Bowen.
This lot consists of 18 of the 120 colored lithographs from the 1855 edition.

Seven (7) are tribal leaders wearing Indian Peace Medals awarded by European Nations and the US Government, awards highly prized by the Indian Nations. These include Ahyouwaighs, Chief of Six Nations, Julcee-Mathla, Seminole Chief, Wa-Kawn, Winnebago Chief, Pa-She-Nine, Chippewa Chief, Wa-Baun-See, Pottawatimie, Ma-Ka-Tai-Me-She-Kia-Kiah, a Saukie Brave and Qua-Ta-Wa-Pea, a Shawnoe Chief.

Eleven (11) include Tshusick, An Ojibway Woman, Apauly-Tustennuggee (unidentified position) Esh-Tah-Um-Leah, a Sioux Chief, David Vann, a Cherokee Chief, Mistippiee (unidentified position), Rant-Che-Wai-Me, Hayne Hudjihini, both women with beautiful traditional garb, Waa-Pa-Shaw, Sioux Chief, Tens-Kwau-Ta-Waw, The Prophet, Itcho-Tustennuggie and Oche Finceco both men unidentified positions.

10 x 6.75" each matted and shrink wrapped to 15.5 x 11. 5". As examined in mat, all are in excellent condition and ready to frame. Estimated Value $900 - 1,200
