Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 42

Lot 3334

1911 $5 Indian. PCGS graded MS-64 PQ. Well struck, the coin sparkles with frosty mint luster. A Premium Quality example that could finally end up in a MS-65 holder. Pop 325; 46 finer (PCGS # 8520) .

Due to the unusual design on these (and the Indian half eagle), the top surface acts as the rim on other coins, and is there to protect the recessed relief designs. All too often, even Mint State coins, when jostled around in mint bags during bank-to-bank transfers, the coins would have their delicate surface frost rubbed off. Only a small population of fresh, frosty coins like the this 1911 quarter eagle are around to supply the needs of collectors.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500.

Realized $6,038
