Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-180. Gold Aureus (7.25 g) minted at Rome, December AD 165-Summer AD 166. Laureate, cuirassed and draped bust right of Marcus Aurelius. Reverse: Felicitas standing left, holding caduceus and cornucopiae; her foot on globe. RIC 154 [as Scarce]. Lovely, high-relief portrait. We note a scrape on the reverse drapery. Nearly Extremely Fine.

This coin was minted to commemorate the dual triumph of Rome over Parthia and Mesopotamia. Co-emperor Lucius Verus returned to Rome probably in the autumn from his great conquests.
