Lot 3260

Bar Kochba Revolt, AD 132-135. AE Medium Bronze (19mm; 6.75g) dated year One (AD 132/3). . Hen-680. Upright palm branch within laurel wreath. Reverse: Chelys-lyre with five strings. Mesh1 172. H-680. Cf. Mild 26. On a small flan. Nearly Very Fine.
Estimated Value $700 - 800.
This die pairing of L. Mildenberg's obverse die O1, which has now been recut, and reverse die R7, is unpublished in the die study, but a specimen is plated in J. Chaim Kaufman's "Additions to the Corpus of Leo Mildenberg" appearing in "INJ 14." The existence of this coin proves that the recutting of the obverse was done before the die combination of Mild 27, which is dated "year 2." Thus, this coin was minted directly before the new dies proclaiming "year 2" were manufactured.
