Bérard, Christian -- Fashion Illustrater for Chanel, Schiaparelli and Nina Ricci, Original Sketch (1932). Coco Chanel Original Fashion Design, 1932 (1902-1949) Christian Bérard, also known as Bébé, was a French artist, fashion illustrator and designer, theatrical and scenic designer who founded the Ballets des Champs-Elysées and was one of the most celebrated art figures in 1930s France. Offered is a gouache on paper original design for Coco Chanel and dated 1932. Also of note are two stamps at bottom. One Jean Cocteau 10, Rue de Anjou, the other Edourad Dermit, 16 Rue Lascombe, Nice. Cocteau and Bérard collaborated on the cinema masterpiece, Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête) in 1946 and after Bérard's death Cocteau dedicated Orphée to him. Edouard Dermit was Jean Cocteau's adopted son, an actor as well as designer. This sketch may have been catalogued and property of both over time, given the intimate relationship between the two. Sketch measures 18 x 12" and is framed to 29 x 23". In excellent condition. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
