The front scene has an allegorical representation of Science presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Manufacture, while the back has the heads of Samuel F. B. Morse and Robert Fulton. Morse used electricity to telegraph messages while Fulton captured the power of steam to run his (unprofitable) steampship line.
