England. Lot of Six Silver Pennies, four of which with Old Testament moneyer names. Struck under Henry III (1216-1272) and Edward I (1272-1307), the pennies average About Very Fine in condition and are mentioned as possible Jewish minters in England in Daniel Friedenberg's opus, Jewish Minters and Medalists, on pp 9-11. Lot of 6 coins.
Edward I expelled the Jews from England in AD 1290 on, strangely enough, All Saints' Day. About 16,000 Jewish people left England and found asylum in France, but not for long.
