There are a number of Jewish-related coins in the Roman series, most of which refer to the victory of Rome in the Jewish War. The Friedenberg collection has many varieties, most being struck by Vespasian. Specialists need to be watchful, though, of general "Victory" types, and those referring to other wars, creeping into various guidebooks and into their collections. At the time of the Flavians there were extensive military campaigns and subsequent victories in Germany and on the northern frontiers of the empire, as well as in Judaea. This particular coin seems securely attributed to the Jewish War victory with the addition of the palm tree symbolizing Judaea, and yet later (see the beautiful sestertius minted by Trajan in the Friedenberg collection) the shield which Victory is inscribing VIC - DAC [Victory over the Dacians] is also set on a palm.
