Researched Group of Hero of the Soviet Union Lieutenant-General Bilaonov Pavel Semyonovich. Bilaonov Pavel Semyonovich (1919 – 1996), was a career Red Army officer. Started service in 1937, but by 1939managed to graduate military infantry school and received his first assignment as a machine-gun platoon commander. During WWII, distinguished himself in fighting at Stalingrad and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. Duringcrossing of Dnestr River in 1944, his regiment was among the first to reach the enemy’s side, and successfully repel all the counter-offensive attempts, destroying 3 tanks, 60 vehicles and taking 150 POW’s in the process. By decree of Sept. 13, 1944, "For outstanding leadership and skillful command of his regiment during crossing of Dnestr" he was bestowed with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, with GOLD HSU Star #2279 and Order of Lenin #20928. After the war, graduated from famous Military Academy of General Staff. From 1968-1974 was serving in command of 38th Army. Retired in 1980. Died on May 28, 1996.
