Kingdom of Thrace. Lysimachos, 323-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.90 g) minted at Magnesia ad Maeander, 296-281 BC. Diademed head right of Alexander the Great, wearing horn of Ammon. Reverse: Athena enthroned left, holding Nike in right hand; below, maeander pattern; in left field, torch. Thompson 112. Beautiful style; obverse in high relief. Lustrous; Superb Extremely Fine.
The beautiful face of Athena exhibits precision in engraving, as does the lion on the central medallion (or aegis) on the shield. Highly modeled, and both dies of high artistic style.
