Ionia, Phokaia, c. 480-450 BC. Electrum Hekte (or Sixth Stater; 2.59 g). Forepart of rooster left with seal above to right. Reverse: Irregular incuse square. Bodenstedt 40. Exceedingly rare. Superb detail. Virtually Mint State.
One of only three known. The upturned swirls and dotting are elements of archaic art. With the seal, these aspects point to a date close to 480 BC. A wonderful coin!
