Lot 298

1851 N-33 R5 EF40. A sharp, frosty cent that was lightly cleaned and retoned bluish steel and light olive. The only marks are a small planchet flake in the dentils left of star 5 (as struck) and a tiny swipe of light reddish brown toning in the wreath right of the T in CENT. LDS, die state b late, with flowlined fields. The base of the first 1 is now quite thin, the repunching under the peak and below the left half of the base is gone, and there is fine doubling now visible along the lower edge of the thin base. A dramatically different die state compared to the preceding lot. Removed from a PCGS slab graded AU Details Questionable Color (PCGS label #406749.91/28324370 included and it shows the attribution).
