Byzantine. Anastasius I, 491-518 AD. Gold Solidus (4.44g), Constantinople mint, struck 491-498 AD. Diademed, helmeted and cuirassed three-quarter facing bust holding spear; on left arm shield decorated with horseman and fallen enemy. Reverse: Victory standing left, holding long cross; star in right field. Officina Θ. SBC 3; DOC I 3c. Some weakness to mouth, otherwise sharply struck and highly lustrous. Some slight, cleanable deposits. Superb Extremely Fine.
