Clayton Pond. "Formula 5000". Clayton Pond (b. 1941) was among the first artists to employ silkscreen printing in a fresh, distinctly personal way. His limited edition silkscreen prints are immediately recognizable for their bright, cheerful colors with a shine as if the inks were still wet. But what is truly impressive is the high number of colored inks used some having up to twenty separate layers.
From the artist about this print: "Formula 5000" was an image created from the artist’s experiences at Riverside Raceway in Southern California and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The car’s number "76" was a reference to the American Bicentennial year. Sitting in one of the Indianapolis cars led to the artist fantasizing himself as the driver and owner of the car imagined in the print.
"Formula 5000", from 1979 and in 15 colors, is 30 x 40", signed and titled by Clayton Pond, Printers Proof (of 5 PP made). Part of the American Leisure-time Obsessions Series. Estimated Value $500 - 900
