Rabin, Yitzhak & King Hussein (1922-1995) Israeli soldier, statesmen, and prime minister (1974-7, 1992-95), born in Jerusalem. He fought in the War of Independence (1948-9), served as ambassador to US (1968-73), Labour Party leader and prime minister until involved in a scandal over personal accounts held in US in 1977. Served as defense minister from 1984-90, became prime minister again in 1992 and was assassinated in 1995 by a 27-year old Law student.


(1935-1999) King of Jordan since 1952. He steered a middle course in the face of the political upheavals inside and outside his country, favoring the Western powers, particularly Britain, and pacifying Arab nationalism.
