Lot 288

1851 N-22 R4+ AU58. A sharp mint state cent that was lightly cleaned and retoned frosty medium brown and light chocolate with highlights of light reddish steel. Nearly void of marks; a collection of microscopic planchet flakes on the rim between stars 10 & 11 (as struck) can help identify this cent. LDS, die state c. The earlier die lines from the main curl and the line through the top of NT in CENT are gone and the strong lines from the tops of NI in UNITED are barely visible as points from those letters. Removed from a PCGS slab called UNC Details, Questionable Color (PCGS label #406716.91/28324368 included and it shows the attribution). Tied for CC#5 honors overall but finest of die state c in the Grellman census. Estimated Value $500 - UP
