Lot 281

1794 S-43 R2 VF30. Very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and display only trivial contact marks under magnification. A thin diagonal nick at the left top of the O in OF can help identify this cent. EDS, Breen state I, with a dull spur from the dentil over the A in STATES but no die cracks. The reverse of this cent is plated in the 1893 Frossard-Hays reference on the cents of 1794 (plate coin #34), and "H22" is marked in white ink on the edge 3 times to indicate it is the Maris-22 die variety belonging to William Hays. An attractive cent that carries a very nice provenance. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
